Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are Heather Hoy, Chris Parkin, Brent Adams, Mick Potts & Dave Tongue. Along with other colleagues at Worldline, we are taking part in a competition to try to complete 2014 miles (walking, running, swimming, cycling, skating or pub-crawling) between Friday 21st March, (Sport Relief Day) and Friday 18th July.
We are raising money for British Heart Foundation in memory of our colleague Chris Pattison, who died very suddenly from heart failure last year.
Together we are ‘Money for Old ROP’. There are many thoughts behind this, ‘ROP’ meaning Rail OPerations, or Really Old Plodders (Brent’s excellent translation), ‘old ROP’ applies to Dave Tongue who used to be in Rail Ops and has been co-opted back in, and certain members of the team are old ;-) There are a number of origins for the saying ‘Money for old ROP (rope)’, from prisoners in the 1800s unpicking old rope to stuff mattresses and pillows, to the days of public hangings where the ropes were cut up and sold as souvenirs. The saying came to mean money for anything that is seemingly worthless.... hey that could fit too :D
