Story
Crohn's and Colitis UK are the UK’s leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Founded as a patients’ association in 1979, they now have 29,000 members and are working to make life better for the 300,000 sufferers around the UK.
I was first diagnosed with Crohn's Disease 7 years ago at age 11 and have unfortunately suffered since. Like many other sufferers I have received every available medication, over 50 hospital admissions and 15 plus surgeries and I am still in what is called a relapse.
For now I am on a medication called Humira which I administer myself by injection every 2 weeks, although after nearly 3 months I havent yet felt any relief from my symptoms, I'm still holding out hope It'll kick In soon! Aswell as these injections I currently take 14 different tablets a night, to control multiple things including pain and sickness.
There Is currently NO cure for Crohn's and Colitis, however, ultimately finding a cure is the goal. The aim of treatment is to stop the inflammatory process, relieve symptoms, induce and maintain remission and avoid surgery wherever possible.
There are multiple complications of Crohn's and Colitis, unfortunately like many other's I suffer from Osteoporosis,Iron deficiency anaemia, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin C deficiency and Extreme Fatigue. Depression and Anxiety seem to come In a package with Crohn's and Colitis, which makes this disease all the more harder to control.
