Story
Thank you for visiting my page! My goal is to spread awareness
on the realities of domestic violence, and in my case, abusive relationships. Domestic Violence (DV) is a very complicated multi-faceted issue. It affects our society, and everyone needs to help break the silence and make DV the public matter that it is. Many people equate DV to physical abuse, but it is also emotional/psychological,
financial/economical, verbal, sexual, spiritual, and stalking/cyberstalking.
Abusive relationships are extremely complex situations that
takes a lot of courage to leave. When a survivor leaves their abusive
relationship, they threaten the power and control their partner has established over the survivor’s agency, which may cause the partner to retaliate in harmful ways. As a result, leaving is often the most dangerous time for survivors of abuse.
Beyond the physical risks of leaving an abusive situation,
there are countless other reasons why people stay in their relationships. Experiencing abuse and feeling genuine care for a partner who is causing harm are not mutually exclusive. Survivors often still have strong, intimate feelings for their abusive partner and the survivor may hope that their partner will return to being that person. No matter the circumstances, survivors deserve to be
supported in their decision-making and empowered to reclaim control over their own lives.
Donating to my team with WINGS Program will support DV
survivors on their journey to freedom from violence. The mission of WINGS Program is to provide housing, integrated services, education and advocacy to end domestic violence. If you took the time to read this far, I want sincerely thank you. Together we can break the cycle of domestic violence.
