Story
This June, Jemma and I will be completing the National Three Peaks Challenge - climbing the highest peaks in England (Scafell Pike 978m), Wales (Snowdon 1,085m) and Scotland (Ben Nevis 1345m) in under 24 hours in aid of Search and Mountain Rescue.
Jemma will be dragging me over 23 miles and a total ascent of more than 10,000 feet - provided that my knees and asthmatic lungs make it! After completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks in around 10 hours we wanted to challenge ourselves and give Jemma something else to brag about apart from the 200 odd Wainwrights she's marched up. Here's to hoping she doesn't abandon me half way because I'm not averaging 5mph and am taking too many tea breaks!
We would really appreciate any donations that anyone is able to make!! Please feel free to share.
Search and Mountain Rescue Team is a really worthy cause. They play a massive roll in responding to police requests to a range of incidents, from injured or lost people in the hills to vulnerable missing people in urban settings. The rescue team consists of about 50 volunteers, all on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All volunteers have full time jobs and meet almost all their own expenses. Team vehicles, rescue kit, medical supplies and operational running costs are in excess of £55,000 per year so they rely on donations from the public to allow them to continue providing this free public emergency service.
