Story

We are running the 10 mile Great South Run for Families of Ocean Ward at Southampton General Hospital. The charity is led by parents and support the families of children with a variety of life threatening heart conditions who are treated on the ward. Support is offered in a variety of ways including through providing toys etc for children on the ward, social events for the children and families, hardship grants and funds towards life saving equipment for use by the families both on the ward and at home.

We have chosen this charity since it is extremely close to both of our hearts since our favourite dude Isaiah (Raz's younger brother, aged 5) has been cared for wonderfully by the Ocean Ward where he has spent a number of both short and long stays including a 6 month stay covering Christmas and New Years. During his long stay he was the only child on the ward and particularly enjoyed the attention from visits from Southampton Football Club players, Santa and a Magician on Christmas day, and all nurses who spent time playing games throughout the festive period! He has suffered a number of cardiac arrests with his first aged 14 months, and the life saving care by the ward and support from the Families of Ocean Ward is something we will be eternally grateful.

As carers for Isaiah, we all now carry a 'Philips Heartstart Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator' at ALL times when we have Isaiah including his teachers and support staff at school. The ward provided professional training specifically around his condition for us all as well as the Defibrillator itself for us to take home as a 'comfort blanket' in case of further cardiac arrests away from the hospital in the future.

This piece of equipment costs around £1000 and is truly a life saving piece of equipment and the phrase 'comfort blanket' is an understatement! We are aiming to raise £1000 for the charity to be able to provide just one of these defibrillators to support a family with a child with a life threatening heart condition similar to Isaiah.

We would be truly grateful for any donations to help us reach our £1000 target, no donation is too small!

Finally, we have placed a competitive side.. whoever loses out of Molly or Raz will personally donate a further £50 towards the charity! Feel free to host your bets on your donation comments!

THANK YOU ALL!!
