Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Macmillan Cancer Support are here to help you find your best way through from the moment of diagnosis, so you’re able to live life as fully as you can. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.

So before you ask... Yes I have questioned myself as to whether am I mad for agreeing to this? However my reasoning reminds me that it is 100% worth it! The reason I have chosen to run the London Marathon for Macmillan is due to a story very close to my heart. In October 2010 my Nanny was diagnosed with larynx cancer. Your larynx is a part of the throat, between the base of the tongue and the trachea, which contains the vocal cords. Very quickly after diagnosis she went down hill rather rapidly and we were informed by the doctors that the only course of action to stop the cancer from spreading any further, was to remove her voice box. I don't think at the time I fully appreciated how strong she was after being informed of this news, losing your voice is like losing your identity. Imagine one day being told you will never speak again and there is nothing you can do about it. I can't imagine what that must feel like- not only because I love talking so much, but because for the previous 63 years of her life that is the only way she has communicated, how everyone else around would still be communicating, now she just couldn't be a part of that. However she never let her smile drop, through many turbulent and terrifying times where we didn't think she would make it through, she proved us wrong time and time again, and battled on. The support provided by the Macmillan nurses is out of this world, they treated my Nanny like the VIP she is and as if she were the only patient they had. They became not only confidants but friends of my family and we will be forever grateful for their support throughout.

8 years have passed and although we will never forgot those times we all went through, they are slowly becoming a distant memory. I am lucky to be surrounded by a family unit like no other, making the decision to undertake this challenge an easy one. By no means is taking part in the marathon anywhere near the battle my Nanny faced, but if I can raise money for those who helped my family when we most needed it, it's the least I can do.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and read my story. I truly appreciate any donation, large or small you may be able to give. The thought I can help another family out there who may be going through the battle we experienced will make those 26.2 miles all worth it! (and hopefully a breeze...) WISH ME LUCK!!!
