Rachel Usher is raising money for Target Ovarian Cancer
In memory of Maureen (Mo) Ball
Story
Maureen or Mo to lots of her friends was diagnosed with ovarian cancer (stage 3C) on the 13th
November 2013.
On December 13th she had debulking surgery at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, to
remove as much of the cancer as possible. Unfortunately there were "nodules" left attached to her
small bowel that could not be removed with surgery.
After a checkup on 24th December (Christmas Eve) she was handed over to the team at the
Freeman Hospital Newcastle, Norther Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) where she received
chemotherapy treatment for the remaining cancer.
Despite some of the best treatment and care available anywhere in the world, she died December
26th (Boxing Day)
When you look at the dates you will realise this all took place over 12 months.
What Maureen (Mo) didn't know was that the signs and symptoms she was having the year earlier
were those of ovarian cancer.
With this just giving page we as family and friends of Maureen (Mo) aim to heighten the awareness
of ovarian cancer to at least 50 people throughout the month of March 2015 and raise a minimum
of £50.
By 50 people reading this and donating just £1 it could not only help one person spot the symptoms and get an earlier diagnosis it will also support Target Ovarian Cancer to get us all, public, GP's, nurses etc. a better knowledge of this awful disease.
What are the symptoms?
- Increased abdominal size/persistent bloating – not bloating that comes and goes
- Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
- Persistent pelvic or abdominal pain (that’s your tummy and below)
- Needing to wee more urgently or often than usual
Please all be aware of this as this awful disease doesn't only affect the lady with ovarian cancer it affects loved ones, family and friends too!
