WE DID IT!
In 3hrs and 26minutes, we walked 10miles across the North Downs Way from Shalford Park, Guildford to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham. Thank you so much for your support, donations and thoughts. It was a poignant night with over 700 walkers, many remembering loved ones. We lit a candle at a church we passed, and remembered Daddy.
Many
of you will know that my dad, Michael Carter, had been ill for the past 5 years
and was cared for at home by my mummy. What you may not know is that she was
supported by a tremendous local hospice,
Phyllis Tuckwell, who offered them regular
respite, giving both my mummy & my dad a break from each other!
The
volunteers at the hospice had even offered to bring my dad to my wedding
earlier this year, giving dad the opportunity to be with us on one of the most
important days of my life. Unfortunately he passed away a couple of weeks before
the wedding, but the kindness of the staff and volunteers at Phyllis Tuckwell
has stuck with me as one of the positive memories from the time of my dad’s
illness.
My
mummy and I are taking part in “Steps Under The Stars”, a 10 mile walk from
Shalford Park in Guildford to Farnham, starting at midnight on Saturday 11
th
September in memory of my dad. I would love to raise some money for Phyllis
Tuckwell by doing this, so if you could spare a pound or two, I would be really
grateful. I’m no night owl, so even staying up until midnight is going to be a challenge!!
