Story
For the vast majority, Motor Neurone Disease, MND (or ALS as it is known to some parts of the world) is a death sentence & for some it is a lifetime of reliance on others.
Sadly, for my Pops, his fate was the former & a little over a year after his formal diagnosis, he died.
Until it hit our family like a thunderbolt, I knew nothing of what MND/ALS was - a progressive disease that attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord, which means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.
Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life... & that is the point of this challenge.
Over the course of a year, from Sat 6th May 2017 to Sat 5th May 2018, we aim to circumnavigate the equivalent of the Earth’s diameter by Running, Swimming, Rowing, Cycling, Jogging & Walking those Extra Miles...
Starting in Northampton, England, we will each 'donate' miles into the pot & hopefully complete the full 24,881 miles* in just 365 days - moving round the world to raise invaluable funds to help those who may not be able to & also support further research into this horrendous, indiscriminating illness.
Visit - mndworld.co.uk - to see how our progress is going & check out the photos & updates below to 'meet the team'...

*The circumference of the Earth at the Equator is 24,901.6 miles but, if you measure it through the North & South Poles, it is slightly shorter at only 24,859.8 miles. Therefore an average of the 2 distances is 24,881 (to the nearest mile).
