BUSHY PARK WALK IN AID OF THE WEST LONDON BRANCH OF THE MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE (MND) ASSOCIATION - 23 SEPTEMBER 2012

MND is a fatal condition that devastates the lives of thousands of people in the UK each year. It weakens and wastes the muscles, resulting in loss of mobility and speech, difficulties with swallowing and ultimately, breathing. There is no known cure and very little alleviating treatment. Half of people with MND die within 14 months of diagnosis.

Due to its degenerative nature, the disease can make huge financial and emotional demands on people with MND and their families. Cuts to services provided by the NHS and social services, combined with more people living with MND, means that the MND Association is seeing a greater number of requests for help than at any other time in its history.

The money raised will primarily be used to give people living with MND a better quality of life by subsidising the purchase of vital equipment, offering respite care and assisting with home modification. It may also be used to help fund vital research into the causes of and treatment for MND.
