Story
In Bangladesh, maternal mortality is the third leading cause of death. 90% of these deaths are preventable. Maa is an international grassroots charity that aims to improve maternal healthcare in resource-poor settings.
MAA is a student-founded, grassroots charity dedicated to improving the health of mothers in developing countries. We provide medicine, resources and education to these mothers, fathers and young women, in hopes of improving care and empowering the next generation. We have permanent clinics providing free checks and care to help with a mother’s full pregnancy. With your help we can keep these running and expand into more areas to help a greater number of mothers!
MaaMonth was started in 2018 as a national fundraising initiative every February to raise money and allow Maa to continue the work we do in Bangladesh. Universities nationwide compete against each other to raise the most money for Maa within one month and to be crowned MaaMonth Champion! In 2022 we raised £60,000 with 35 universities taking part. This year we have over 50 university societies from across the world telling stories of our mothers!
We have recently expanded our work internationally in Afghanistan, and the money raised provides crucial funding for Maa to continue running our clinics in rural areas of Bangladesh and Afghanistan. We are also piloting our new healthcare app, MaaConnect, with our MedTech specialists in India.
Support us by taking part in MaaMonth 2023 and help us to revolutionise maternal healthcare!
