Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
I am participating in a 10k twilight walk through Royal Windsor on Sunday 6 October 2013 with my sister Katrina and best friend Lucy to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity.
As many of you may or may not know, I was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Anaplastic Ependymoma Brain Tumour located in my Brain Stem in 2005. I will never forget that day. My world fell apart.
I successfully underwent surgery to have a shunt inserted into my brain (to drain the build up of fluid) and to have the tumour removed.
However, in 2008, I was given the devastating news that my brain tumour had returned and spread to the base of my spine. I was gutted!
After extensive research, I was accepted for treatment at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, America and received intensive Proton Therapy followed by months of chemotherapy back in the UK.
It has been 8 years since I first began my journey and I have faced many ups and downs along the way. But, above all, the most incredible day was when I received my all clear scan results. I felt blessed. And more recently, the fantastic news that a Proton Therapy machine will soon be available in Britain. I am proud to have helped raise awareness of this massive step forward.
I will always be eternally grateful for all the love and support I received from family, friends, work colleagues and the general public to help me fight this terrible disease and raise an incredible £250k.
And now, I would like to give something back and commit myself to help raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, raise awareness of Proton Therapy, help other people fight the fight and to never give up hope.
So please....spread the word, dig deep and spare a few minutes to share your pennies or pounds for this amazing charity and to make a real difference. But most importantly, to give someone the chance that I had!
