Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the London Marathon 2023 for Brain Tumour Research, an amazing charity which is very close to home. In February 2021, we recieved the devastating news that my niece Layla had a brain tumour which would require emergency surgery.
Layla was diagnosed with a low grade Pilocytic Astrocytoma after a routine eye check had shown slightly rigid and blurry optic nerves.
Layla had her first MRI scan on the 3rd February which found that Layla had an extremely large brain tumour. Within hours of receiving this news, Layla was taken to Kings College Hospital where she stayed for almost 3 weeks.
Layla had a 12 hour craniotomy on the 18th February, where they managed to debulk a huge amount of the tumour leaving a tiny amount behind. After surgery Layla had some weakness to her left side but she was determined to get all her strength back and she did.
Since then she has had MRI scans with contrast dye every 4 months which all showed stable tumour results. Layla is now on 6 monthly MRI scans and we are very hopeful that we will always receive the same positive results.
Layla has made an amazing recovery and continues to amaze us with her strength and determination everyday.
Brain Tumour Research is an extremely underfunded charity. I now want to raise awareness and as much money as possible to help families like ours by taking on the challenge of running the London Marathon.
