Story
At our horticultural charity, we provide work experience to 100 vulnerable adults, some of who have Down's Syndrome. We always do our best to support them in their working environments and we love seeing how happy they are at Mires Beck.
For Down's Syndrome Day, we will be holding a competition of the best embellished different coloured puppet socks. This will be £3 for a pair of socks to enter the competition. This will be to raise money for our new greenhouse chairs. The reason for this competition is because Down's Syndrome Day is usually celebrated by wearing odd socks for #LotsOfSocks. Lots of Socks was created because chromosomes are shaped a little like socks, and so this campaign spreads the awareness that people with Down's Syndrome have an extra chromosome.
Please send you pictures to lucy@miresbeck.co.uk. We are really honoured to have Oliver Hellowell judging our competition, who is a landscape and wildlife photographer with Down's Syndrome.
The closing date for entry in Monday 14th March. The winner of our sock-puppet competition will be announced on Down's Syndrome Day (21st March). The prize will be 3 pairs of our wonderful Mires Beck socks!
