Emerging Influencers is a six week leadership programme for 17-23 year olds. This community of young adults is raising money for Tearfund's life saving work in helping people to continue to lift themselves out of poverty.

Story

We are a group of students and graduates from York university who are running to the halls to power to demand an end to global injustice. We believe that in a time where so many are suffering, fighting for the rights of the marginalised and oppressed could not be more important.

So does Tearfund. They are a Christian development agency who’s advocacy work fight to support the poor and marginalised all around the globe. They pressure politicians, mobilise church networks, and campaign tirelessly on behalf of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable in society.

We are collectively running and cycling the 275km distance from York Minster to Westminster, from the well known minster in our University city to another well-known minster where so much power and potential to end injustice resides. We are running in support of Tearfund’s work, raising awareness and fighting injustice all around the world.

As far as we know there is no current record, but we are hoping to collectively run the distance in one week. We believe that so much of the power to bring an end to injustice sits in the corridors of Westminster, and so we are running to the heart of power in this country to make our shouts for justice heard.

Here is just one story of their work in Venezuela, where they have saved lives and protected the poorest people in our world. Help us help them to positively impact more lives and help more people lift themselves out of poverty.

The city of Barranquilla hosts more than 15,000 Venezuelan families who have taken refuge in temporary accommodation. Most of them depend on being able to go out to work in order to put food on the table, but now they can no longer leave their houses due to an imposed lockdown to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Thankfully, relief agencies such as Tearfund's church partners have delivered food baskets to 600 families with young children. They will continue to reach out to help the most vulnerable, including the elderly and women and children who are at risk of violence and abuse when confined to their homes.

The full impact of coronavirus on communities in poverty is still unknown. By donating money, you will help support Tearfund's life-saving work across the world.
