Story
I am trying to raise awareness for a disease which still has a lot of stigma surrounding it. Being an invisible illness, I feel as though my symptoms attract a greater deal of scrutiny and criticism. I was diagnosed with M.E 3 years ago and have suffered with symptoms for 5. I am lucky enough to be in recovery and am much more able now, and feel so grateful to have some of my energy back. However, a 5KM is still a massive feat for me. Although it will seem small to many, I am really excited and proud to be aiming to complete it. I want to raise awareness of M.E, and raise money for funding research into the complex and debilitating disease.
It is truly heartbreaking what it can take away from so many. A lot of people are left feeling as though their identity has been robbed as a result of the disease. No longer able to do the same things they once did, it can feel like they've lost a part of who they once were. Prior to having M.E, I used to run a lot and would reluctantly run a half marathon without too much difficulty. Now I find it hard to walk up the stairs without getting out of breath, what were once mole hills have become my mountains.
I feel lucky to be able to raise awareness and get back to doing something I once enjoyed. Many are not so lucky and will not be able to run again without breakthroughs in research. The likes of which are not possible without the help of fundraising from people like you.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give! If you are not able to, then please visit the ME associations website to read and understand more about a disease which is still greatly misunderstood.
