Mini Wimbledon at home with Sue and Scott

Sue Mason is raising money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Mini Wimbledon at home · 19 May 2020

We raise money for research, care & support to help cancer patients get the best care.

Story

Following my breast cancer diagnosis in 2012 and the subsequent problems I experienced mentally, I was referred to the psychological medicine team at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre to support me with my emotional health difficulties.  They held my hand through the darkest of times over a period of time that had a huge impact not only on myself, but my family too.  Since then, in many different ways, I have gained strength from this fabulous department, and now - having some time ‘thanks’ to the pandemic, I have decided to ‘give something back’. Of course ‘post pandemic’, psychological support is going to be paramount for people with cancer, as they gain strength to move forward with their treatment.  There have been some amazing life changing things that have happened as a result of the support I have had from this department...and I have made friends for life through cancer and Clatterbridge, and I will always be grateful for that.

Myself, my wife Jackie and both our children, Jemma and Scott (who were 13 and 11 when I was diagnosed), are eternally grateful for the work of Psychological Medicine at CCC, and as such, Scott and I are taking on a Mini Wimbledon challenge (Jackie and Jemma will be part of the support team!).  We will be playing 18 hours and 2 minutes of short tennis in our garden (videoed for evidence!), which is the length of time on average on court it takes the Men’s Wimbledon Champion to win.  We will be completing this during the Wimbledon ‘fortnight’ (that isn’t on!), on dates - 29th June to 12th July.

Thank you for any support you can give us, however small, it is so much appreciated.

Sue, Jackie, Jemma and Scott xx
