Story
Alex Spelzini is the practice manager at The Mimram Veterinary Centre in Welwyn , Hertfordshire and Tracey is a member of the reception team. There chosen charity this year is Hearing Dogs for Deaf People .
There are many people who are deaf who struggle with loneliness and isolation. It excludes them from so much that so many of us take for granted. Deafness is on the rise and demand for hearing dogs is increasing. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is the only charity in the UK that provides assistance dogs to support deaf people. They aim to improve the lives of adults and children with severe & profound hearing loss, by training dogs to respond to important sounds; sounds that include baby`s cry, an alarm clock and a fire alarm. A hearing dog can be truly transformative for a deaf person, giving practical assistance, companionship and confidence to deal with the world around them. Every year a new generation of pups live with volunteers who introduce them to new places and faces . As the pups grow , they learn more about the world and are taught basic obediance. They will be taken to new places by the volunteers using different modes of public transport, they will visit their local bank, supermarket ,restaurants etc . They then start doing the "serious " stuff soundwork. They will learn to alert people to important sounds. All this costs money so please give anything you can spare to help fund the next Hearing Dog for Deaf people Puppy.
