Fundraising for EHE Rare Cancer Charity
The day before Alastair and my wedding I was diagnosed with an extremely rare (1 in a million) cancer or the lining of the blood vessels, Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma (EHE for short). There is currently no cure for this disease, traditional chemotherapy and radiotherapy do not work and due to its rarity research attracts no funding, other than that from family and friends of sufferers. Thankfully, I appear to have a slow growing form at the moment but the doctors are unsure as to when this will change.
There are a couple of doctors in the USA, a Dr. Seth Pollack in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre and a Dr. Brian Rubin in the Clevland Clinic, who are going to work together looking at immunotherapy at a treatment/ cure. They have already identified that it is successful on similar cancers so there is hope.... To run the initial stage of trials on the cancer I have they require $25,000, not a ridiculous sum when you consider that phamaceutical companies invest millions in research for 'common' cancers each year.There are number of stages to my fundraising.
