Story
We have started on our road as young ladies with responsibility and accountability for our actions. We have so much in our lives and life is all about giving. We also feel really strongly about the importance of community and we are so lucky to be part of Bushey's amazing community. Dan and Joshua are special people here and we wanted to help in his incredible goal.
Nicki’s Smile was set up in memory of Nicki Blake who lost her battle to Pancreatic Cancer on the 11th November 2010, aged just 33, leaving behind her devoted husband Dan and three year old son, Joshua. Twenty months earlier Nicki was diagnosed with a form of Pancreatic Cancer tragically too advanced to operate. Just over a year before she was diagnosed, potential warning signs for this cancer were not picked up, but with improved awareness of how to identify symptoms, tests would almost certainly have shown the potentially operable tumour. In short Nicki would still have been alive today.
Pancreatic Cancer is one of the biggest cause of cancer deaths with a low diagnosis and survival rate and low awareness. Dan wants to improve survival statistics of Pancreatic Cancer through raising money for research and early diagnosis initiatives. If Nicki’s Smile makes a difference to even one person, then her death would not have been in vain. We want to help him do this.
We wanted to do something that gave of our time and effort and involved the feeling of giving as well as raising money. Everyone involved helped create such a special atmosphere of love and fun and giving and we want to thank everyone who helped. We really hope this money helps others.
Lots of love
Millie and Jessie
