Story
On the 10th of October, I will be (trying) to run the London Royal Parks Half Marathon (with little to no training) in aid of Alzheimer's Society!
I know first hand what a horrible illness dementia can be, but it is sadly an illness that we currently have little means to treat. I chose to run for Alzheimer's Society not only to support ground-breaking research into the disease, but to support the vital work they do helping those with dementia, or their carers in their daily lives. Covid has made it even harder for those of us with families in care homes, and Alzheimer's Society have been campaigning throughout the pandemic for appropriate changes to visitation laws to help families reunite face to face.
I originally entered this race well over a year ago as it was meant to be in April; I chose to enter after sadly both my lovely Grandad Sid and Grandma Brenda have been affected by this illness and I wanted to do something for both of them. Unfortunately, in the time between entering and now, my lovely Grandad passed away and I will now be running in his memory. He truly was a wonderful, cheeky legend of a Grandad and I hopefully I can make him proud with this.
I will also admit that recently, after moving cities a few times, being away for a month and preparing to start a PhD I haven't particularly been focused on training, and have only ran a handful of times since Spring! I can't promise that this is going to be a very fast half, but your donations certainly will help me cross the finish line (hopefully) at least.
Therefore, please do donate if you either want to help treat Alzheimer's, or alternatively if you hate me and want to really see me suffer! Either way it is for a great cause and I hope I can raise some money for a fantastic charity.
