Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I swore I'd never do this (and I swore quite a lot and very loudly), but this New Year's Day I'll be running down Cawsand beach, white cane flailing wildly as I plunge into the bloomin' cold waters of the bay. No wet suit, no safety net, plenty of goose bumps and frighteningly shrinking things. I like to think I'll look stunning in my nice new speedos.
Please, if you can, donate a spot of cash for the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society "Fighting Blindness" - RP is the condition that I have, and it affects about 1 in 3000-4000 people.
Donating through this website is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RP Fighting Blindness gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
You'll be able to read about the event on www.themillbooker.blogspot.com and I'll be talking about it in the January broadcast of my monthly "Insight Adventures" on Insight Radio.
Here's a little info about the condition (from the BRPS website): "Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the name given to a group of inherited diseases of the retina that all lead to a gradual progressive reduction in vision. Difficulties with night vision and peripheral vision are the first things that are noticed. Later, reading vision (detailed vision) and colour vision are affected. The age at which symptoms start is variable and may vary with the different genetic types. The rate at which vision deteriorates is variable but is generally very slow with changes occurring over years rather than months. In approximately half of all cases (50 to 60%) there are other family members with RP.
So please sponsor me now!
