Story
I've raised money for charities before, generally through running. Whilst some races and training can be tough, I enjoy running so it feels like I'm cheating at times with this.
What I don't enough though is heights. I can find it tough walking downstairs if I can't see my feet. I don't like walking near the edge of a high building. I hate the tiny parts of steps on a spiral staircase. Even escalators get me sometimes.
So, this Pride season, I will be doing a skydive for akt. I knew it would be the best test of myself and a very good reason to ask you for a donation to support an incredible charity, via my fleeting act of delusion.
Lots of young people come out as LGBTQ+ to their families and are embraced and supported. But that’s not always the case. Coming out, or being outed as LGBTQ+ can lead to young people being made homeless. This is the reality for 77% of the young people akt supports.
Sometimes families are unaccepting and abusive. The locks changed. Possessions destroyed. akt exists to support these young people and can offer safety and hope in an open and accepting environment.
akt exist to support these young people by providing:
- Advice from one of our housing specialists
- One-to-one support from our trained mentors
- Access to our emergency support pack or tenancy starter pack
- Accommodation with a trained akt host
- A place to stay in our Purple Door accommodation service
- A safe place with one of our many housing provider partners
- Access to life skills training, events and peer support
