Miles For Moms · 10 October 2020
On October 10, I'm walking 25KM to help support Women's College Hospital's Reproductive Life Stages Programs.
Why?
Because I'm so grateful for the help I received when I had post-partum depression with my first child. The support I got literally saved my life and gave me to the confidence to be the mom I am meant to be; more importantly, I was connected to a group of other moms experiencing similar challenges. I wasn't alone.
Post-partum depression - and other mental health issues related to a woman's reproductive journey including fertility and loss - are still not widely talked about and much stigma exists, especially when you are perceived for "not getting over it quick enough" or "still feeling that way."
Imagine right now - during this unprecedented time of isolation - how a first-time mom or mother who has mental health issues is or isn't coping. Or a mom of colour who is almost twice as likely than a white woman to experience post-partum depression and less likely to receive care.
Your contribution matters. Thank you for supporting me on my walk. I am forever grateful.
