Story
Miles for Minds! A 28-mile coastal walk to raise money for
Mind Charity.
Mental health is something that we as a group have always
felt passionate about supporting. We always encourage each other to speak out
if we're struggling and do what we can to support one another. The Coronavirus
pandemic has had a detrimental impact on mental health. According to Mind charity
more than half of adults and two thirds of young people have reported that
their mental health has gotten worse during lockdown. Now, more than ever, we
need to raise awareness for mental health and ensure that there is support is
in place for those who are struggling.
We all have our own reasons for participating in this walk,
but above all we want to do something to help those who are struggling during
this tough time and let them know that we are thinking about them. It is so
easy to feel alone when you're consumed by your mental health and that is why
it is so important to reach out. We want to use this platform as an opportunity
to encourage people to do just that.
On the 15th of May we will be walking the 28 mile
coastal stretch from Donna Nook Nature Reserve all the way to Skegness pier. We
will be leaving Donna Nook in the morning with the aim to get to Skegness for around
8pm when the sun is setting. This will be our biggest challenge yet.
The Miles for Minds team consists of Lydia Steiner, Jamie
Fraser, Shannon Brown, Charlie Hall and Hannah Newman. We are also being sponsored by Jappy Jars – A little Jar of Happy. A small business aimed at spreading positivity,
mental health awareness and wellbeing through the joy of jars! Please see the store at Etsy.com/uk/shop/JappyJars
Please, please, please donate to our cause. Any donation
will be greatly appreciated and could make all the difference. As well as this
we ask you to please share this page, get the word out about what we're doing
as the more people who know, the more support we may get. And if on the 15th
of May you see a bunch of girls dressed in blue, dragging their feet along the
Lincolnshire coast then please give them a cheer, we're probably going to need
the encouragement!
If anyone reading this is currently struggling with their
mental health then I BEG you to
reach out and get help. This could be from a loved one, your GP or any kind of
professional. If you don't feel safe then present yourself at your local
A&E or health department ASAP. No one should have to go through any kind of
health battle alone, especially mental health.
