Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2020 during the first lockdown, I tried to take my own life. I was found and resuscitated and hooked up to life support in the ICU at Treliske hospital. After getting over the initial shock of waking, I turned to MIND charity for support and they were right there.

Having lost loved ones to suicide before, I full understand the need for charities like this and how incredibly important they are.

Every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide.

800,000 people have died from poor mental health every year for the last 20 years.

1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children will suffer from a mental health disorder in their lifetime, and depression alone is one of the leading causes of disability, affecting 264million people every year.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29 year olds.

However, it is one of the most underfunded areas from the Government, with only 11% of the NHS budget being put into mental health. (Stats from the World Health Organisation and NHS).

They are many things in this world we cannot control. However, funding vital training and help for those in crisis is something we CAN control.

This is our responsibility. It is a responsibility for you to yourselves, to your family and friends, and for all humankind.

I have already chased down 7 marathons in 7 days 20th - 27th JAN 2021, and was due to attempt a World Record for 15 marathons in 15 days 01 - 14 APR. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p71EteB6Re0

However! COVID restrictions pushed the date on and by that time I ruptured my ACL and had to have knee reconstruction surgery.

In light of not wanting to give up I have changed my mission. I only have from the waist up to work with so in October will be setting off along the Brecon and Monmouth Canal to kayak its length, camping and cooking by stove on the way. I will then be swimming a 6hr max distance with only my arms.

Where will the money go? All the funding will be put into training the amazing people on the other side of the phone when someone phones in a crisis. It will also put MORE people on the other side of the phone, so that no one is left alone in a time of darkness. It will provide instant, around the clock help.

I have volunteered for many charities and something that crosses over all of them, is mental health.

It applies to us ALL. Regardless of age, gender, location, situation. So, let’s get behind a charity that can provide desperately needed help.

We should all be on the same team. And the goal is better mental health.
