The Tour de France, the Giro D'Italia, the Vuelta a Espana, the Tour de Leatherhead....Ok so it's not quite yet on the radar of cycling's illuminati but between the 1st and 4th October Unilever Leatherhead will be hosting its very own cycling challenge, a challenge with a really important purpose. To raise lots of money for the Get A Head charity in memory of our colleague and friend Melanie Jaggard who sadly passed away last month.

Mel was a much loved member of our Unilever community and her battle with cancer was an inspiration to all who knew her. Over the last few years many people have partaken in challenges to raise money for Mel's chosen charities - Get A Head and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity - and now it's our turn! Over four days, we will be cycling like crazy both inside on exercise bikes and outside on the road, with the objective of cycling to Mel's home town of Gilwern and back as many times as possible (a 320 mile round trip). There will be plenty of competition between teams (think time trial challenges, fancy dress challenges, distance challenges) which will encapsulate Mel's fighting spirit and competitive edge, raise lots of money for a great cause and help us all remember a wonderful friend and colleague. Let battle commence!

The money raised will be used to fund the research of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) an incredibly rare and (currently) incurable form of cancer and will specifically help fund a project at the new Molecular Research Centre at The Royal Marsden to understand the genetic pathways of ACC to enable them to find targets and blockers for it. The project will require funding for the next four years at least so your money really will make a huge difference!
