Story
Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page.
We were delighted to see the new Maggie’s Yorkshire cancer support centre (at the Bexley Wing of St James’ Hospital in Leeds), open in late 2019 after five years of planning, fundraising and construction. We want to continue to support the centre team at this most challenging of times for all charities to ensure they are able to continue deliver the much needed support that they provide to people with cancer and their loved ones.
We are all volunteers with day jobs who give our time and energies to this cause because we passionately believe in the exemplary cancer support that Maggie’s delivers in the calming and uplifting environment of the centre, on-line and in the work place. Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on society as a whole and especially on people with cancer. It has also robbed charities like Maggie’s of much of their established programme of fundraising events on which the care that Maggie’s provides depends. Our flagship ‘Orange Ball’ for example, which raised £85,000 for Maggie’s in 2019, has had to be postponed until next Summer. We are taking on a ‘Miles for Maggie’s’ challenge to raise vital funds for Maggie’s at a time when the support Maggie’s provides is needed more than ever.
We are taking a c 500 mile virtual route around the Maggie’s centres in the North starting at Maggie’s Newcastle and going via Leeds, Oldham, Manchester and Merseyside and back again. If you can support us in our challenge we would be very grateful – every donation will help to spur us on and will make a big difference to people with cancer.
We will of course be doing it the Yorkshire way so expect to see a flat cap or two on our travels. All together now...We would walk 500 miles and we would walk 500 more...
Many thanks,
Maggie's Yorkshire Proclaimer's.
