We support people living with HIV to ensure they live healthy lives

Story

Hello! I'm running the London Marathon 2023 in aid of the fabulous Terrence Higgins Trust, the UK's leading sexual health charity, and I would love it if you would sponsor me.

This will be my fourth sponsored run for THT, and I'm going to make it the biggest, best, and campest yet!

The charity has worked tirelessly since its establishment in 1982, during the AIDS crisis, to reduce HIV transmissions, support people living with HIV, and mitigate the stigma against them. Sadly, the virus continues to spread, and the stigma attached to the illness remains highly toxic and alienating. As a gay man, I identify and sympathise with the alienation people living with HIV suffer in the UK today. With your help, THT can ensure that people living with HIV are treated with the respect and compassion that they deserve.

Please sponsor me to run the London Marathon 2023, as quickly and flamboyantly as I possibly can!!! Raising the money is certainly a daunting challenge, but one that I'm so excited to take on. I'll be organising bucket collections, bake sales, donating my Christmas & birthday presents, basically whatever I can do, to supplement the total, but your donations will undoubtedly make the most significant contribution

Follow me on my instagram, @mileswubwub, where I'll be regularly updating people about my training and fundraising efforts over the next year. If anyone would like to lend me a hand with fundraising, or has any suggestions for further fundraising opportunities, please contact me there, or on my email, miles.1996@hotmail.co.uk.

And finally, PLEASE SHARE THE PAGE  with your business, university, school, family, friends, enemies, pets, postman, builder, GP, chiropractor, spiritual advisor, etc. - basically, anybody who you think may want to help, please let them know. Sponsor me, and you're officially #TeamTerry and part of the family! I'll be arranging a get-together post-marathon for my sponsors, so I can thank you in person, but until then...

Thank you! xxx

Further Info ( for further, further info, head to THT's website, www.tht.org.uk)

Your generous and much-needed donation will allow THT to:

  • Provide STI and HIV testing.
  • Provide free condom access.
  • Offer therapy and counselling services to people living with HIV.
  • Assist people living with HIV to access the benefits they are entitled to.
  • Staff a Mon-Sun direct helpline - THT Direct.
  • Offer emotional and financial crisis support.
  • Provide Sexual Health Training for volunteers/businesses/schools.
  • Campaign on many vital issues, including health equality, inclusive RSE (relationship & sex education), the 'Can't Pass it On' campaign tackling HIV stigma, and the funding of health services.
  • Work towards their goal of ending HIV transmission in the UK by 2030.

LGBTQ+ anti-bullying campaigns are being axed, and sexual health services are receiving severe cuts, despite being accessed more than ever; the work of THT could therefore not be more important and valuable. Your donation will help them provide the essential services and advice everyone needs to lead a healthy sex life.

Ending HIV transmission in the UK means overcoming entrenched prejudices, false beliefs, and racial inequalities. The virus, sometimes wrongly labelled a 'gay disease', now infects a greater proportion of people through heterosexual contact, than it does homosexual contact. This places straight people at risk of contracting a virus they mistakenly believe themselves immune to, due to misinformation. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it's the dangers of health-related misinformation. Furthermore, a disproportionate number of new transmissions affect black British people. This inequality must be stopped, and THT are the charity to do just that.
