Story
Mikey is a playful and loving little toddler, who likes nothing more than to spend hours playing with his toy farm animals while singing Old Macdonald Had a Farm." He loves cuddling up to watch Peppa Pig and playing with his baby brother, Bobby. But in December 2017, when he was just 20 months old we noticed a lump in his tummy. After a trip to A&E, he was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma, a rare and highly aggressive form of cancer. While Mikey has so far responded well to his treatment, immunotherapy spells the end of his frontline treatment available on the NHS, and his battle is far from over. Almost 50% of children with high-risk neuroblastoma relapse and when it does come back less than 1 in 10 survive. So, along with a group of friends, I am doing a 25km walk at the end of January to help fundraise in case he needs to access treatment or clinical trials not available through the NHS. The route starts at the Royal Marsden in Sutton where he is primarily being treated, goes up to the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital where he was born and back down to beside his nursery in Clapham where we are hoping to send him back one day when he is better to continue his journey.
