I am Mike Vogel, a 62-year-old teacher, retired in July 2009. You can see what my major hobby is.
I planned to help raise funds for Wallace Cancer Care by doing a sponsored walk from Bedford Hospital to Red Cross Lane, Cambridge Sunday, 6 September 2009.
Well, I did it! Or rather, "WE did it", as my two 30-something children and son-out-law came too, plus my ex-pupil to celebrate his great A-levels. None of us had ever walked 32 miles in a day before.
OK, so it took 11 hours instead of 10. And OK, so the weather was almost ideal. It was still a worthy challenge and the blisters and stiff muscles testify to that. We were met 10 miles out and elsewhere along the way by enthusiastic staff from WCC, who had given up their Sunday afternoon not only to do this and to walk us in but to get us washed and fed afterwards. Complimentary therapy indeed !!
Thank you one and all to those who have sponsored us. Together you have raised over £2000 for this wonderful charity. Please continue to plug it for us, as people will be able to continue sponsoring me on this site until next April.
You will see some of the pictures from the walk at
