We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Hello to all our friends, family and those of you just passing by, thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

                                                  The Cause

As of 2016, deaths from cancer just in the UK alone each year are still in the hundreds of thousands, with a 3rd of cases being preventable. Whilst research into the prevention and treatment of cancer is ongoing and making breakthroughs, it can only achieve its ultimate goal of beating cancer with the help of generosity from the public.

                                    The Race and the Reason

The race: On the 8th June 2019 Andy and I will be undertaking an incredibly tough challenge, certainly the hardest challenge i think i have ever done. A duathlon the length of Wales!

1 country - 24 hours - 3 mountains (running 20 miles) - 160 mile cycle

                                        180 miles total

The reason: Anybody that knows us, will tell you that we are very active people. Either one or both of us regularly go running, cycling, swimming, climbing, gymnastics. We have both undertaken races in the past, myself (Mike) completing half marathons and 100 mile cycle sportives, whilst Andy has completed Ironmans and cross continental cycles (but its not a competition).

Mike - Having grown up playing weekly football games, I spent most summers playing tournaments with a great team around me. Being fortunate to win a fair few, not in part due to the big man between the posts, Ash. Ever since we became friends in playgroup you knew Ash was in the room, not only because he was taller than everyone else but also because of his personality. For the 20 years that i knew him we had plenty of good times and lots of great memories were made. From being at my first proper birthday party in primary school to getting the limo from his for the leavers ball and beyond, he was always there, always a character. His untimely passing at 24 because of cancer was such a shock and deeply saddening. It highlighted to me how cancer is truly indiscriminate, taking away one of my longest known friends. It made me realise how no matter the situation you should always make the effort with the people that are important and where possible help others

Whilst we have done many events in the past, this is going to be one of the most physically and mentally demanding by far requiring plenty of motivation and training. we're hoping that this page and your donations will not only help a great organisation in Cancer Research UK, but will help keep us focused and motivated for the months ahead. In return we'll be regularly updating this page with photos of our progress and most likely pain.

Thanks for your visit,

We hope that you can spare anything even if only the price of a cup of coffee, any donation will be greatly appreciated :)
