We support young people fighting cancer to live their best life

Story

In honour of all the wonderful teenagers supported by Teens Unite I am taking on the epic challenge of cycling across Cuba.

The ride is a total of 350km. We will be setting off from Havana and embarking on a challenging 5 days cycling. The most challenging aspects of this trip will be not only the endurance needed for 5 days cycling but also the heat and humidity.

More about the charity:

Teens Unite aims to help young people build on their self esteem and self confidence and reduce feelings of isolation by taking them on fun days out such as concerts, football matches and motivational workshops.

What makes Teens Unite unique is that it supports teenagers through treatment and beyond, for as long as they need the support.

My inspiration:

I am doing this challenge for a number of reasons. First and foremost, having volunteered for them in Broxbourne in November, I believe that Teens Unite is a fantastic organization serving a wonderful cause. It is always heart-breaking when children and young adults are afflicted with cancer and I welcome anything that can be done in order to give them a chance of survival and make the time which they spend fighting cancer more bearable. The respite home which I did general maintenance work at is absolutely fantastic and it would be great to see Teens Unite grow and have many more of them in years to come. With the right conditions as provided by Teens Unite young cancer sufferers can have a more positive attitude in their battle against the disease and increase their chances of survival, therefore every bed in every respite home is another live potentially saved.

Secondly, I believe that every act of kindness has wide-reaching ramifications. If you do somebody a good turn then you are helping to empower them so that one day they will be in a position to help somebody less fortunate than they are. If you give love you get it back tenfold but it is paid forward in even greater measure time and time again.
