In memory of Ruby Jane Cronin
We are running our first marathon, the London Marathon 23 April 2023, in support of the British Heart Foundation, who, alongside the research into heart and regulatory diseases, are carrying out fantastic research into understanding how pre-eclampsia develops, to try to discover new treatments.
Stacey's sister lost her baby daughter as a result of developing severe pre-eclampsia 22 weeks into her pregnancy.
In cases such as these, to prolong a pregnancy any further is extremely dangerous for the mother as well as the baby, as it can lead to eclamptic seizures, organ failure, and death.
There is currently no cure for pre-eclampsia. Delivering the baby is the only 'cure', which is why it is a major cause of pre-term birth. Research by the Imperial College London suggests that around 1,000 babies in the UK die each year due to pre-eclampsia-related issues.
