We provide support and fund vital research to make myeloma history

Story

Firstly thanks for taking the time to visit our MyelomaUK JustGiving page :-) You may have been directed here by a friend and are unsure of who, why and what we are up to so read on to find out:

Carol (our Mum) was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma - a cancer of the white blood cells in bone marrow. Not nice stuff however she's doing absolutely fantastically so far which we are immensly proud of however that is by no means going to stop us giving her her as much support as we can muster! She has a treatment plan including multiple chemo cycles and a very clever Stem Cell Transplant coming up shortly which should see her back on track and living life to the full once again!

MyelomaUK have been working hard since 1997 to support patients and family alike and have done a fantastic job so far at keeping Mum on the straight and narow with advice and support. They undertake medicinal trials and promote research into new treatments to further improve the lifes of those unlucky boys and girls with Myeloma. We want to show our appreciation and make sure they have the support to keep up the smashing job they been doing so far for many more years to come. For more info  about MyelomaUK see http://www.myeloma.org.uk/about-muk/about-us/

So what are we doing this year that we are asking for your support with?

So far we have been already been out and about -

My nephew Leo (4) has completed the Sport Relief Mile in an outstanding time of 12 minutes. His mummy (Maz) and daddy (Remy) have been out running too completing 10km and 1/2 marathon races already through to a full marathon for Remy to come in June.

Dad (Mike) is undertaking a sponsored Weight Loss - aiming to be 2 stone lighter by Sept 16th

Cat is aiming to complete another crazy event his season for MyelomaUK (still undecided though.....)

And Me? Spurred on by Cat's success last year I've decided to give Ironman a goI'd planned to attempt a full Ironman Triathlon in my 30th year and now I have an even more important reason to get cracking. I've also foolishly given myself a tough target of completing the course in under 12 hours..........it's not an easy course and this will def hurt!!

In case you were unsure, the Ironman Full Distance Triathlon is made up of the following:

3.8km (2.4miles) sea swim

180km (112 miles) cycle

42.2 km (26.1 miles) Marathon distance run

In preparation for Ironman in Wales on Sept 16th 2012 I will be completing a number of 'warm-up' events including runs (10km to 1/2 marathon), triathlons (Olympic to 1/2 IM distance) and Cycles (incl. a 220 mile ride on May). I have also decided to go T-total whilst training therefore have been 'dry' since 31/12/2011 which is becoming ever more difficult when attending Stag do's and weddings but I have not broken my fast yet (even Steve Heywood couldn't break me!)

As part of my training I will be taking part in the Longcourse Weekend in June in Tenby: this is basically the Ironman Wales course but with each discipline held on a different day over the course of a long weekend. Fortunately I have a number of crazy friends and family who have agreed to help me out: Chan, Max, Farley, Andy and Luke will be riding with me on the Saturday and Remy will be running the marathon with me! Cat and James will be joining us for the full weekend and we shall all be riding and running in Orange to support MyelomaUK and promote their good work.

So, please dig deep, show your confidence in our craziness and please donate now.
