Ride London 2022 · 29 May 2022 ·

We fundraise to buy equipment, fund major projects, desensitise the medical environment and buying a new ambulance for the Children's Intensive Care Unit at Southampton University Hospital. Caring for critically ill children from across the south of England and the Channel Islands.

Story

Ride completed on 29th May 2022 at Ride London Essex. My first (maybe the last 😊) 100 mile bike ride on behalf of Friends of PICU.

The PICU at Southampton University Hospital has given tremendous support to a close family friend and I'd love to raise as much money as possible to help the unit.

Friends of PICU is a registered charity who supports children and their families on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Southampton Children’s Hospital at the University Hospital Southampton.

Southampton PICU is the regional lead centre for critically ill children aged from newborn to 18 years.  The children are admitted from 27 referring hospitals across the South of England and the Channel Islands, and from the various children’s wards at Southampton Hospital.  Over 1,000 children are admitted each year for specialist care by the skilled and dedicated team.

Through the wonderfully generous fundraising and donations received we are able to have a big impact across the whole of the PICU and the excellent level of care which is provided to the children and their families.

"Friends of PICU contribute to every part of the specialist care with no patient passing through PICU without being assisted by nursing training and education, the variety of equipment donated, and the caring and considerate environment they have helped to create – Thank You for the incredible support, it is very much appreciated by the whole team and makes an enormous difference".
