Story
Spinal cord injuries are something that you never anticipate will happen to yourself, however in 2006 whilst working in Switzerland I had a snowboarding accident which fractured my C4 vertebrae and damaged my spinal cord. The accident left me with complete paralysis below my neck.
After having surgery in Switzerland I was moved to the spinal injuries unit at the North General Hospital in Sheffield for further treatment. It was whilst at Sheffield that I was introduced to Aspire and the work that they do; during this distressing period of my life I was visited by an Aspire worker who told me about the fantastic work they do and who’s incredible positivity reassured me that life goes on after a spinal cord injury.
After over 5 year of recovery I am extremely fortunate to have regained enough muscular function to be able to jog, and despite some remaining nerve damage I am ready to take on this challenge and raise money and awareness for a charity that has helped me and thousands of others with a spinal cord injury.
