We provide family-led care and support to children with life-limiting conditions

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I like many of the the other intrepid explorers in my team were coerced into this whilst under the influence. Some will fall, some will get left behind and some will not return. One thing is for sure if we complete this mammoth task we will never be the same again, strange things happen in them there Welsh mountains in the dead of night.

The length of the challenge is about 24 miles, but once you add the walks to the start (top of Snowdon – 3,559ft) and down from the finish (Foel-fras – 3,090ft), it takes it to over 30 miles, with over 13,000ft of ascents in total.

The walk is also known as the “The 14 Peaks”, although there are officially 15 peaks (16 if you just want to show off).  Instead of camping at the top of Snowdon the night before, we have opted for setting off in the early hours with a steady walk to the top, hopefully arriving at sunrise for the start.

The following link will give you more information in respect of what is involved and details of each of the 15 peaks www.welsh3000s.co.uk

This is, apparently, no mean feat and is “an extremely tough challenge which is only suitable for very fit and experienced mountain walkers”………no comment!!  One mountain in particular, Crib Gochwww.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crib_Goch, is very exposed and problematic.

We considered a number of charities, Mountain Rescue in particular cropped up a lot, but as we are all either Dads, Stepdads, Uncles or Godfathers we felt that we should do this one for the kids!

Martin House Hospice cares for children and young people with progressive life-limiting illnesses and provides support to their families. They are based in a purpose built hospice in Boston Spa, Wetherby and care for children and young people from throughout the Yorkshire region.

So please dig deep and give what you can – the costs of any rescue mission will be borne by family members, albeit they have not yet agreed to this!!

Thank You
