Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
At the end of last year, after a couple of glasses of wine, I agreed to join this bunch of rogues for a little cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats at then end of May 2010. In the cold sober light of day, I obviously realised that I had been talking to a bunch of serious cycling enthusiasts, who put themselves through extended bouts of cycling pain on a regular basis....whereas I wobble my way to work on my 10year old Raleigh once in a while, whilst being over-taken by grannies with shopping baskets attached to the front of their bikes!
Managed to start the year off with a long bout of flu, but have now got myself into some serious training - going to need it as we will be cycling 10 days on the trot, averaging 100 miles a day! Despite being, by far, the weakest of the bunch, I am determined to complete the course, no matter how much it hurts, as I want to raise as much money for The Motor Neuron Disease Association as possible.
Unfortunately, my colleague lost her father to MND last year. It is a horrible disease that attacks the body, but not the mind. It causes weakness and wasting of muscles, with increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. MND kills 5 people every day in the UK and leaves people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves. It is fatal, with no known cure.
The MND Association ensures that people affected by MND can secure the care and support they need. It funds and promotes research into causes, treatments and a cure for MND and relies mainly on voluntary donations.
Anything you can spare to donate to this cause, no matter how little, would really be appreciated, and will give me the strength to carry on when my body is crying out for me to stop, go home, have a nice bath and a cup of tea!
