Fundraising for Tree of Hope
Thanks for visiting my Just Giving page.
I am cycling 140km (85 miles) on Sunday June 14th as part of the Wales Velothon sportive to raise money for Evan Pedrick via the Tree of Hope Charitable Organisation.
The event has two main challenges. Firstly the 140km is 85 miles in old money and secondly in amongst the 140km are two climbs which (both after 80km and will sap the energy out of most people's legs. The Tumble is a very well known climb that has featured in many Tour of Britain races and ranges from between 8-15% gradient over a leg numbing 5.1km. The climb up Caerphilly mountain featured in the Milk Race of the 60's and 70's and is a short sharp shock at 120km.
Evan Pedrick is a 6 yr old little boy who suffers from Cerebral Palsy.
He is unable to walk unaided without a walking frame and he finds it hard to sit independently. On a bad day he uses his wheelchair which is very limiting. His disability also affects his speech, his ability to fulfill his toilet needs and little things like washing his hands and using a knife and fork are very difficult. He wears splints everyday and because he walks with his toes turned in and on tip toes he goes through a pair of shoes every 3 weeks!
Although he has lots of friends (he attends Ysgol Trebannws) and family around him he is unable to play sports and games with them which frustrates him and he sometimes becomes withdrawn because of this.
Evan and his family's dream is for him to be able to kick a ball around the garden or to be able to walk along the beach on his own and feel the sand on his toes.
With the help of an operation called S D R which is now being performed in Bristol, Evan will hopefully achieve these goals. The operation is not currently funded by NHS Wales which is why I/he needs your help in raising money to pay for the operation.
The cost of the operation and required physiotherapy is £40,000 so please, any money you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
