I am running the London Marathon 2023 to raise funds for Jessie May, which is a children's hospice-at-home. I lost my dear Dad to bowel cancer in 2018 and Jessie May became a charity partner to my employer shortly after and it was during that time that I learned about their vital work. 

When we lost Dad, his hospice support was so important not just for him but for all of us. Anyone going through the agony of losing a loved one, especially a child, deserves all that support and more. 

I ran the Bristol Half Marathon for Jessie May in 2021, in memory of Dad, and I've dusted off the running shoes once again to run my first full marathon this time.

Jessie May nurses are free of charge to families who need them. Jessie May recognises that the whole family is under huge emotional and physical strain when a child has a life limiting condition. Through their team of dedicated Jessie May Nurses, they provide specialist palliative nursing care and support to help alleviate some of this pressure. 

This support is provided in the comfort of the family's own home whenever possible, from the time of diagnosis onwards. The care Jessie May provide is holistic, individualised and family-centred, working closely with other professionals involved in supporting the family to ensure effective communication, continuity of care, and that all needs are met.

A Jessie May nurse can provide: specialised nursing care, palliative and end-of-life care; complex respite care in the home, and during hospital admission, as well as bereavement support for up to 5 years following a child's death. This includes emotional support and advocacy for families including support visits and telephone support too.
