Virtual JOGLE (John O'Groats to Land's End), 29 March 2020
An emergency appeal for East Anglia's Children's Hospices in response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

Story

Our son Euan is 12 years old and was diagnosed with a rare degenerative condition when he was 6. We have been supported by EACH since 2014.

We use the Treehouse hospice in Ipswich where Euan enjoys  hydrotherapy and group music therapy as well as short break care. We also go to family events and wellbeing groups and benefit from the Help at Home volunteer service.

We are self-isolating for at least 12 weeks to protect Euan from Coronavirus. During that time we will be cycling on an indoor turbo trainer to raise vital funds - EACH are currently losing £100,000 of income per week due to the Coronavirus crisis as their shops are closed and fundraising events cancelled.   All the services that we receive are currently suspended.

Sam, Cerys and Rosanna are going to cycle the JOGLE (John O'Groats to Land's End).  We have decided to go north to south, which is more difficult due to the prevailing head wind, and we will be doing the more scenic Bed & Breakfast route (obviously bed and breakfasting at home) which is a total of just under 1000 miles.

Mike will be doing the JOGLE on his own, including all of the hill profiles.

About EACH

Our hospices aren't just about end of life care; they're often very happy and fun places, where young people can live life to their full potential. They are places where families feel safe, at home and where they can spend quality time together. We support families and care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. Our family-centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management support, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies and counselling; all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family. We offer families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support; at home, in hospital or at one of three hospices at Milton (Cambridge), The Nook (Norfolk) and The Treehouse (Ipswich). More than half of our care and support is delivered in the home and community, in surroundings familiar and comfortable for the whole family.
