Story
As Mick's family, we politely ask for family flowers only at his funeral. Instead, we'd love it if you could donate a small amount to help Thorpe Hall to continue their work.
The staff at Thorpe Hall work tirelessly to allow people the level of dignity and care that is just not possible in a hospital, so we have set this page up to help support their ongoing work. We learned first hand that the staff are absolutely incredible, and are a credit to their professions.
We know that many people were shocked to hear of Mick's death, and were surprised to even find out he was ill. There's a brief summary below of how we have found ourselves in such a horrible situation, but if you'd rather not read on then you can scroll down to skip over it and make a donation.
When Dad received his Cancer diagnosis in March 2023, none of us expected the coming weeks to be such a fast and steep rollercoaster. As with most families, we presumed there would be time and options available to him to fight it.
While waiting for some test results, he walked in to Peterborough Hospital on April 18th hoping they could help with some of his increasing pain. He was admitted for further tests and kept on the ward. Every test result seemed to bring more bad news for him, but he stayed positive and optimistic, determined to fight on and beat it.
He was given the worst news imaginable on 5th May, that the cancer was so aggresive and had spread so rapidly that there were no treatment options available, and that he had just a few weeks left. With the physical and mental tole of such an aggresive illness starting to weigh on him, he chose to move to Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall on 10th May, where he was given the best care anybody could ask for, and was allowed to pass away, pain free, and with dignity, with Jennie holding his hand on May 14th.
On behalf of Jennie, Christopher, Stephen, Marjorie and all of Mick's family, we thank you in advance for your kind donation.
