Story
As you know my brother Frank passed away peacefully at his home on April 9th surrounded
by his wife, Maura, and his family. He was a big supporter of MS Ireland and raised tens of
thousands of euro for the charity. Frank was also a keen marathon runner and myself and
my two brothers Sean and Brian had the pleasure of running together with Frank in the New
York marathon in 1980, the first four brothers to ever run a marathon. We also ran the
Dublin Marathon in 2013 and the NY Marathon again in 2015 (35 years later)
Earlier this week I got a letter from the CEO of MS Ireland paying her respects to Frank and
thanking him and the Quinn family for the enormous contribution made to the charity over
the years. It was a poignant letter and after reading it I said to myself "maybe NOW is the
time to do another marathon for MS Ireland and to honour Frank's footsteps”
With the current restrictions in place it is impossible to run 26 miles so next weekend I plan
to complete a marathon by walking around my garden at home on Saturday, Sunday and
Monday. I'm asking you to consider doing something similar and help raise money for MS
Ireland. You don't have to walk 26 miles - you can do 26 steps, climb 26 stairs, telephone 26
friends or get 26 people to sponsor you or myself. These are just a few ideas using the
number 26, you can come up with your own ideas and make it fun, whatever works best for
you; or maybe just decide to make a donation.
No matter what walk of life we come from if we don’t work together we won’t get very far so let's take the first step
