Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Gavin Mitchell, a colleague of mine at Cape, has decided to raise money for MNDA due to the ill health of his cousin (Please see his link on the team page). His initial idea was to complete a coast to coast bike ride to raise money, and I suggested that we could increase the scope of the challenge to help increase the awareness of what he was doing. We discussed the 3 peaks as well and he decieded that it was a good idea and would organise a challenge. Flippantly he said it wasn't extreme enough, so we ended up tagging the Great North Run onto the challenge.
So now we have 3 gruelling challenges, to complete (hopefully) in 6 days. Our schedule should be something like:-
Tuesday 11:00 to Wednesday 11:00 - National 3 Peaks
Thursday 9:00 to Saturday 15:00 - Coast to Coast Bike Ride
Sunday - Great North Run
National 3 Peaks
We will Start by Climbing Ben Nevis (Britain and Scotland's highest mountain), then travel down to and climb Scafell Pike (England's highest mountain), before carrying on to Snowden (Wales' highest mountain). As we are aiming to complete all 3 peaks in the 24 hours of the normal challenge we will be climbing Scafell Pike in the night.
Coast to Coast Bike Ride
After we have completed the 3 Peaks we are heading back up to Whitehaven, where we will cycle from the West coast over to Newcastle on the East Coast, a distance of roughly 140 miles. Thats definitely gonna leave me feeling saddle sore!
Great North Run
Finally in Newcastle we will take part in the UK's most famous Half Marathon, the Great North Run. 13 miles of running and walking in order to finish the challenge.
This is due to take place in September, we only have 9 weeks to train and prepare for this challenge, so it should be good fun. None of the team that are taking part are athletic, and we are all putting ourselves through the pain barrier in order to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Assosication.
Thanks for your help
Mick
