Story
As the Pru100 was cancelled this year I said I would still ride the 100 miles in support of Motor Neurone Disease Association East Kent as a colleague Craig Whitelaw was diagnosed with the illness last year, robbing him and his family of the life they had together (normal family life).
Motor neurone disease (MND) describes a group of diseases that affect the nerves (motor neurones) in the brain and spinal cord that tell your muscles what to do. With MND, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles, is life-shortening and there is no cure. It is not related to lifestyle and choices we can make so 1 in 300 will get MND randomly by chance.
I wanted to support MND on behalf of Craig as (fingers crossed, touch wood etc) I have thankfully not suffered anything like this and can still enjoy what I want to do and my hobbies (mainly cycling).
I decided to ride 100 miles on the weekend of the Pru100 event so I will ride 100 miles on Saturday 15th August. Pru also run a 46 mile event so I have persuaded my wife Jackie to ride 46 miles together on our tandem on Sunday 16th. Jackie may not of realised but after a hard 100 miles on the Saturday she will need to do all the work on the Sunday.
The course is planned I have a few friends joining me. I believe in challenging yourself so the course is about as hard as you can make it in Kent with 5,700 ft of climbing.
