Story
Working in children's critical care medicine, and as part of the transport team I see first hand the benefits that the Children's Air Ambulance bring to children throughout our region and across the UK. I therefore jumped at the opportunity to participate in a channel swim, fulfilling a childhood ambition.
Having taken part in a number of long distance cycling and running events, it's fair to say I love a challenge, but having not swam since a child it quickly became clear that this event really does require some training! Despite lockdown, we've been training throughout the winter, in some rather chilly water, and in September along with the 5 other team members, 'The Water Warriors' take on the channel! We'll be swimming 22.5 miles from Dover, in the world's busiest shipping lanes, potentially facing jellyfish, whales and raw sewage to reach the shores of Calais.
The Children's Air Ambulance is a charity funded service, that provides helicopters to help us transport some of the sickest children to the services they require, often saving vital time and an uncomfortable journey for our patients, which can make a huge difference to their condition.
