Story
So often I have thought to set myself challenges, but I feel I am often guilty of saying I will do something but then not following through. One day I was checking my instagram account when a post popped up to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society by taking part in a 2mile (3.2km) swim in the Serpentine. Well, this seemed to be the enticement I needed to actually finally commit to something.
My grandma (Mildred Simon) suffered from Alzheimers, I was young at the time and didn't really understand what was happening. It was all very confusing, and it soon became clear to the family my intelligent grandma (and she was incredibly clever), was now suffering from Alzheimers.
My grandpa cared for her throughout her illness which was no easy task. It was sad to see the decline in my grandma and the stresses this put upon my grandpa and the rest of the family. When this advert came up on my feed I knew I had to sign up.
As many of you know I love swimming, but from the comfort of the heated swimming pool followed by a jacuzzi session. A far cry from a cold lake, late in September, with who knows what lurking in the water surrounded by swimmers. At least there are no jelly fish! (I've been stung on my backside before!)
Anyway on the 22nd of September I will taking part in the Serpentine swim on behalf of the Alzheimer's Society. As well as donating to the charity on a monthly basis I hope this swim will help the charity on its mission to invest further in research into dementia care, cause, cure and prevention. After all every little helps!
