Story
Dear Family and Friends:
I will be taking part in the 2010 Dubai Marathon on the 22nd of January to raise funds for Women for Women International. I plan to run 42K and would love to have your support.
Women for Women International is a non-profit humanitarian organization founded in 1993 that helps women in conflict and post-conflict zones such as Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan by providing financial and emotional support, rights awareness training, education and job skills training to women survivors of war. The horrors of war and civil strife such as family loss and widowhood, rape, murder, forced migration, poverty, starvation, trafficking and torture often leave women socially excluded and helpless. An average Women for Women International participant faces the following challenges:
- She has limited access to electricity and water (99% of participants in Sudan)- She is not educated (96% of participants in Afghanistan)- She is not engaged in productive work (90% of participants in Iraq)- She is not able to pay for medical care (66% of participants in Afghanistan)- She is not able to change customs and traditions that are not fair to her (94% of participants in the DRC) Please sponsor me and make a difference this new year.
