On 26th September this year 24 members of Help for Heroes 'Team True Spirit' (of which we are a part of) will take on the epic Enduroman Arch to Arc Challenge. This is an ultra-distance triathlon which will see 4 relay teams of 6 commence on an 87 mile run from Marble Arch to Dover, where we will enter the water to swim across the English Channel to Calais, then on to the final leg of the journey - a 181 mile cycle ride to the Arc de Triomphe.
This is an amazingly tough challenge for all involved; personally I had never ridden a road bike or even contemplated open water swimming until earlier this year! But with lots of training (including a compulsory 2 hour sea swim assessment!) the mind-set has gone from 'not a chance' to 'let's smash it!).
Andy and I have also taken on other challenges as part of our training, including The Mid Summer Munro (Britain's hardest half marathon), a 100 mile sportive, and on 19th July we will compete in IronMan UK in Bolton - a 2.4 mile swim followed by 112 miles on the bike, followed by a marathon ... all within a 17 hour time deadline - gulp! Not bad for my first ever triathlon!! lol. In between IMUK and A2A we have the Mark Cavendish Sportive (120km) and the Cotswold half IronMan.
So, after the main event in September, I predict in October we will be mostly recovering and sleeping ... zzzzzzzz.
Andy has already set up a JustGiving page which you may have seen, this is still open for donations and the money will still go to Help for Heroes, but it was set up before we had the link to the Arch to Arc campaign page.
Anything you are able to donate on either of our pages will go towards helping our sick and injured servicemen and women, and would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Michelle & Andy
